Waterloo Station TAP – Tensioned Access Platform Systems

High Access Solutions Ltd were contracted to provide a TAP Tensioned Access Platform system to Network Rail working procedures to allow access for the installation of the roof purlins and roof cladding systems.  The design was completed to BS 5975:2008 Code of practice for temporary works procedures category 3 level to ensure strict control of the design process.

A TAP specialist rope access project manager and CAD manager attended site to ascertain the scope of the works with completion of the designs and temporary works documents within 5 working days.  This accelerated design period allowed the customer to undertake detailed design checks to the structure to ensure loadings were acceptable.  The system accommodated a design load of 250kg which allowed for two operatives including tools to access any single roof bay at any one time under a permit to work system.

The system was manufactured in record time and delivery to site was completed within 10 working days to allow the first phase to be installed and handed over as soon as feasibly possible.  Rope Access methods were utilised for the installation of the system to IRATA International Rope Access Trade Association methods working to FASET Fall Arrest Safety Equipment Training standards utilizing FASET TAP Managers qualifications.

During the installation period a detailed Operation & Maintenance manual was formalized consisting of Safe Systems of Work, Inspection & Maintenance Plans and Permit to Work Systems.  The system upon handover was inspected to the documentation and our FASET Trainer attended site to undertake formal FASET TAP Inspectors course for each of the clients working operatives.  Once complete a bespoke End User & PPE course was undertaken by High Access Solutions to allow safe access and rescue from the system.

High Access Solutions Ltd were tasked with working from the system for the installation of the roof purlins, various other trades works, inspections and maintenance of the TAP system and provided adequate rescue cover to IRATA standards at all times.  During the lifecycle of the project it was necessary for High Access Solutions to provide permanent attendance for Rope Access operations with up to 16 hours per shift over multiple 7 day visits.  This allowed the client to have multiple shift patterns and expedite the works to Network Rail requirements.

High Access Solutions aim is to deliver award-winning project design and development in the work at height safety sector, we offer our clients a full turnkey solution for your project.  Please contact us for all your work at height project requirements.
